Which File Should I Download?
- Windows: most PCs need the x64 installer (.msi). Choose arm64 for Snapdragon laptops, or a portable .zip if you cannot install software.
- macOS: one universal .dmg works on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It is signed and notarized.
- Linux: AppImage runs on almost any distribution. Use .deb for Debian and Ubuntu, .rpm for Fedora and openSUSE, or Flatpak for a sandboxed install.
- FreeBSD and RISC-V builds are available as tarballs.
How to Install WordCraft
Before your first edit, keep an unchanged copy of the document in a separate folder. After installation, open a sample or a duplicate, make a small change, save it under a new name and reopen the saved file. Check page breaks, tables and pictures before using WordCraft for an important document. An installer is the application itself; it does not replace the DOCX file you want to edit.

Every release lists a SHA-256 checksum for each file in SHA256SUMS.txt, so you can confirm the download is intact.

Install and open
Run the .msi or open the .dmg on Windows and macOS. On Linux, make the AppImage executable or install the package with your package manager.
Desktop App or Online Editor?
The desktop app works offline and handles very large documents best. It also includes the command-line tool and the MCP server for automation.
WordCraft Online needs nothing installed and is ideal on a shared or locked-down computer, a Chromebook or when you just need to fix one document quickly. Files you open stay on your device.
Troubleshooting
- Windows app does not open: some AMD drivers crash with OpenGL. The app uses DirectX 12 by default; you can override it with the WGPU_BACKEND environment variable (for example vulkan).
- Slow on an older Windows PC: when no DirectX 12 driver is available WordCraft switches to OpenGL automatically.

Yes. WordCraft is free and open source under the MIT or Apache-2.0 license.
Is WordCraft Online the official download site?
No. WordCraft Online is an independent service that hosts the editor in the browser. Desktop downloads link to the official WordCraft GitHub release.
Does WordCraft open Word documents?
Yes. It opens and saves .docx and imports older .doc files. It is still in alpha, so keep a copy of important originals.
Can I use WordCraft without installing it?
Yes. Open WordCraft Online in a desktop browser to edit documents without installing anything.
