How to Use WordCraft Online
This guide walks you through opening a Word document in WordCraft Online, editing it with the ribbon you already know, and saving your work as .docx or PDF.
1. Open the Editor
Go to the editor and wait a few seconds while WordCraft loads in your browser. The first visit downloads the app; later visits are much faster.
WordCraft uses WebGPU when your browser supports it and falls back to WebGL2 automatically. A current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a desktop works best.
For a first practice run, use the sample document linked from our homepage. It lets you try the same open, edit and save workflow without using a personal file. The homepage and this guide do not load the full editor; opening the workspace downloads the application. Wait for the ribbon and document area before choosing a file.
2. Open a DOCX File or Start From a Template
Click the File tab. Choose Open to pick a .docx from your computer, or start from one of the built-in templates: Blank document, Letter, Résumé or Report.
WordCraft also opens .odt, .rtf, .html, .md, .txt and older Word 97-2003 .doc files.
Keep your original file as a backup. To open DOCX in WordCraft, use File > Open inside the editor, then select the local file in the browser file picker. Check the first and last pages before editing. If you start from a template, replace its example text rather than treating it as a finished document.
3. Edit Text and Formatting
To edit DOCX in WordCraft, start with a short paragraph. Put the cursor in the text, change a sentence and try a heading or bold formatting. Use Undo if the result is unexpected. For a table or a multi-page file, check nearby paragraphs after each larger change so you can spot a layout problem before continuing.
- Home tab: fonts, bold and italic, colours, alignment, lists and the Styles gallery with live previews.
- Insert tab: tables, pictures, shapes, links, headers, footers and page numbers.
- Layout and Design tabs: margins, orientation, columns, themes and watermarks.
- Review tab: spelling and grammar, comments and track changes.
- Familiar shortcuts work: Ctrl/⌘+B for bold, Ctrl/⌘+Z to undo, F7 for spelling.
4. Save as DOCX or Export PDF
Open the File tab and choose Save As to download a .docx copy, or Export to create a PDF with selectable text. Your browser saves the file to your Downloads folder.
Saving creates a new file. The original file on your computer is not changed.
To save DOCX in WordCraft, choose a clear file name that distinguishes the edited copy from the original. Your browser may ask where to save instead of using Downloads automatically. Locate the downloaded file and reopen it in the editor to confirm your changes were saved. A download button click alone does not confirm that the file reached your device.
Keep a DOCX copy when you expect to make more changes later. Export PDF when you need a separate document for reading or sharing, then open that PDF and check every page. PDF export does not turn WordCraft into a PDF editor. Save before closing or refreshing the browser; a WordCraft account is not a cloud document backup.
5. Know the Current Limits
If a page looks different after reopening, stop editing that copy and return to your backup. A successful test with one sample does not guarantee that every Word document will round-trip exactly. For critical work, review the saved file in the application that the recipient will use, especially when it contains complex layout or unsupported objects.
- WordCraft is in alpha. Everyday documents work well; charts and SmartArt may not survive a round trip yet.
- Real-time collaboration is not available.
- Use a desktop browser and keyboard for the current workflow. Phone and tablet editing has not been verified for this release.
